The Think Room

Design = Love

By , in POV

I've been asked so many times to explain the importance of design. Or why design really matters? In my humble opinion, design matters most. Design is the product; the product is what we sell.

If the product is designed well, people will buy it. But something else happensĀ during that exchange of creativity and finance that is more powerful than any marketing machine love. From our tennis shoes to the hand soap we display in our kitchens, these are objects that we depend upon, care for and weave into our nests as reflections of us or reminders of our histories. These objects we hold so dearly were initially invited into our lives because of a perfect mix of color, typography, texture and shape or what we call design.

From there, they transcend into pieces of us. Saatchi & Saatchi called this idea out in their ideas about Love Marks. What I feel they failed to illustrate was the mere fact that it all started with design. If "love conquers all," then design must be some pretty powerful stuff.
